I'm Your Daisy

Let me tell you about myself. My name is Daisy Devenrue. You might recognize the name from a few years back when it was splattered all over news and milk cartons. I was fourteen when I was abducted by a monster. He wore the form of a man but he was a monster who used the pain and blood to feed both their hunger and their desires. He had me chained to a wall for ten days and I was bloodied, battered and on the verge of death and longing for it if I’m honest with myself. The monster walked down the damp cement steps into this dark hell and suddenly he flipped on the lights and though they were small wattages they were more than enough to blind eyes that had been in the total darkness for what? Two day’s since he had last fed me and tortured me? He stepped forward and started to undo my shackles.

“You’ve been a wonderful little plaything dear but your energy is almost exhausted and it’s time for you to die that I can make room for the next little morsel. His long snake like tongue licking at the blood seeping from my wrists. He raises his hand and his fingers become claws. Hard and sharp. Razor blades prepared to end my life and despite my earlier wish to end the pain I cringe away from him and he smiles with a mouth full of ragged teeth.
“It’s your time little one.” He hisses and the blades slash toward me at unbelievable speed. I’m dead is my last thought as I turn my face and shut my eyes.
Several long moments pass and I don’t feel the blades biting into my skin. I heard harsh, labored breathing and when I open my eyes there’s another man standing there leering into the monsters face. I struggle to break loose from his grasp without avail.
“You’ll not slay her, Rwathrn. You have killed your last mortal.” The new comer said. His eyes unnaturally large and dark. Backlit irises of the deepest black like thin sheets of onyx overlaying lightning. Where his whites should have been they were crimson with veins showing even darker. So were they just fighting over who got to eat me?  Suddenly the long, thin rapier darted out and the claws feel from the monsters extended hand along with his fingers and the air was filled with a terrifying screamas a strange, thickly sluggish liquid flowed from the stump which had been severed with the precision of a surgical laser. I was free. The monster stumbled backward and flung up his remaining hand. The blades barely blocking the long rapier in the other man-monster’s hand.
“Flee little one! Get yourself far from here!” The old man who had arrived from nowhere to save me. I looked at the battle being waged in front of me and the blades laying on the floor and I grab one by the attached finger to keep from cutting myself and without thought I start to move. The fear and despair of earlier now turns into an all consuming rage. I charge into the melee and slash at the legs of my captor. I hear another wail from him as his leg separates. His foot and lower leg remains in the spot it last touched down. The rest of his body rolling to one side as the old man slices deep with his rapier, almost decapitating him but he doesn’t stop with this move. He drives the rapier into the monster’s mid section and slices upward slicing through his torso. The monster falls to the floor in a pool of the black liquid and then his body and the black pool explode into a large burst of dark energy that burns so hot it drives me back toward the steps. I’m too weak to keep going but I smile as I watch the monster pay for my abuse. I could die satisfied. I slumped to the floor and closed my eyes, letting the darkness claim me.
“No, you don’t little one. You’re going to live through this night. Now on your feet.” The old man barked in my ears. I lunged to my feet and looking around, my eyes fell on the claws. Laying on the floor I dart for them but the old man pulls me back and tosses me a leather sack.
“If you want them that badly, they’re yours. Use the bag to pick them up and store them in. It’s made from the only thing the blades aren’t able to cut.” He said and I did as instructed. We leaned on each other as we climbed up those damp stairs and after he cut through the lock we stepped out the door and into the cool night air of a late fall night.  He leads me to an old beat up pickup and helps me into it’s cab. Sleep now child because you’re going home. He said softly and sleep I did.
