I grew up in a old Victorian building in East London. The houses were atleast 130 years old
Growing up, I had a lot of experiences in that house.
When I was a toddler, apparently my mum would come down stairs and find the cupboards and draws in the kitchen wide open.
One day me, my sister, and my mum were in the living room facing the door that leads right up the stairs to the top floor. My mum had me in her arms. I remember her screaming and running out with me and my sister. The next day she visited the local church and we got a blessing from the acting vicar. I come to find out in my teens the reason for this was she saw a pair of legs, no torso, walking down the stairs.
Over the years while growing up, I would be in my room at night and like clockwork I would hear footsteps walking up the stairs by my room. My mum and sister would be in the room next to me.
My sister was wheelchair-bound and nonverbal so I know the sound wasn't from anyone present and mum wouldn't leave her unattended for obvious reasons.
Each night, the steps sounded like they would get louder and over time I would hear guttural coughing and a drowning-like gurgle.
Not fun.
None of my friends would come to the top floor-
all straight refused, said there was a horrible feeling up there. It was like someone didn't want you there.
Another night, I was in my room alone at about 11pm watching a show we used to get in the U.K called Most Haunted. As the program started to pick up the pace, I felt a shift in my room. Like it felt busy… As the people are asking spirits questions on T.V., two books fell randomly off a shelf. Being a kid, of course it puts you on edge. But, I picked them up and put them back. I went back to watching my show.
I still remember it felt so heavy in that room and intense, like the feeling you get knowing two people are about to fight.
Out of nowhere, my alarm clock (a Tobey Maguire spiderman clock might I add, it was 2002 expect it.) went off "introducing the terrifying, the deadly, the amazing spiderman!"
It was loud. As you would expect I'm now on edge big time. I’ve damn near jumped out of my skin.
Gingerly, I walked over and removed the batteries and placed em on my chest of draws next to me and decided I had enough excitement for one night. I needed to sleep.
I pulled the covers up and pretended that it didn't happen and shut my eyes.
"INTRODUCING THE TERRIFYING, THE DEADLY, THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN!!"
It went off again! The first place I look was on my chest of draws. The batteries were still there.
I decided there was no point in trying to run from something you can't see. I knew my only option was to stay awake till daylight, so that's what I did.
I had alot of nights like that.
